Birth Announcement Timeline

imageBelow is valuable information to save you time creat ing the perfect birth announcement. Be sure to read our etiquette section for more ideas and proper communication for birth announcements and other baby-related events like baby showers, baptisms and more.

When to Send

Send birth announcements to family and friends within six months of the birth. If your newborn arrives near holiday time, combining the birth announcement with a holiday greeting is acceptable and quite popular.

Two months before your delivery date:

Start compiling names and addresses of recipients.

One month before your delivery date:

Look at Posh Prints' selection of unique birth announcements to find your favorite design, layout and colors (considering baby's gender, your style and personality).

If you do not know the baby's gender, choose one of each gender-specific design if you do not want a unisex announcement.

Choose the wording for the birth announcement. Most birth announcements include standard information, such as the parents' names, baby's name, birth date, birth weight, and length. Feel free to use our suggested wording and layout, or personalize our wording to your liking, or do something else entirely!

Many parents-to-be pre-order and address the envelopes before the baby's birth. Posh Prints offers an envelope pre-order option for all our announcements.

Purchase enough stamps from the post office. Note that the 5" x 5" cards require additional postage.

After your baby arrives:

Send the announcement as soon after the birth as possible. If you slip a few weeks, that's alright  - any time up to six months is considered acceptable.

And remember: This is just the first in a lifetime of communication about your newborn.

Etiquette

It is not necessary to hand-sign the announcement or include a personal note in each card. Receivers understand that Mom and Dad are extremely busy, and they appreciate just hearing from you.
