Digital Camera Images
We want your cards, and the images you submit to us, to look their best when you send them to family and friends! You can trust our experience and knowledge with image enhancements, black and white conversions, and so forth. Therefore when possible, always submit original, full color, and unedited images.
If you desire cropping or color conversions, submit the full color images, and simply ask to have them converted. If you desire specific cropping, you are also welcome to submit an example, along with the original image. Note however, that it may not always be possible to crop exactly to your specifications.
Send the FULL SIZE, original & unaltered digital file in JPEG format. The digital file size must be larger than 200Kb (kilobytes) in disc space to render an acceptable printed image - but larger is highly recommended, especially if you desire any cropping. Again, please DO NOT submit images that are under 200Kb in size - they are not suitable for quality printing, and are not covered by our guarantee.
If you are using a digital camera, first make sure you have it set on the highest resolution setting possible (300 dpi is ideal) and the least amount of compression. Turn off the date stamp feature on your camera.
Scanning Images
- Photos must be original - not professional copyrighted images.
- Glossy photos provide better results when scanned.
- PLEASE WIPE THE PHOTO AND YOUR SCANNER BEFORE SCANNING. We cannot touch-up significant dust or other spotting from your scanner.
- Only scan original prints, not photo copies.
- Your prints must be scanned at 300 dpi, with a minimum size of 4x6. If you are scanning 4x6's, simply set your scaling to 100% at 300 dpi.
- Save images as JPEG, at the highest quality possible.
- Do not perform any photo editing or cropping on your computer.
Mailing Original Photos & Negatives
We prefer digital images, but we will work with you. Please mail your images to: Posh Prints, ATTN: Melissa, 913 E. Center St., Monticello, IL 61856. NOTE: There is a $15 scanning charge for this service. Original photos will not be returned unless a SASE is included.
Professional/Copyrighted Images
Posh Prints respects and upholds the legal rights of photographers and image authors. It is UNLAWFUL for us to reproduce images that are copyrighted without the express written permission of the person or entity that created the original work. If you have a copyrighted image, please contact the photographer to request a signed copyright release; once provided, we will keep this for our files.
If you choose to scan your professionally taken images on your own, for the sole purpose of making copies, you are assuming the legal risk for violating any copyright.
(Copyright Indemnification) Purchaser agrees to hold harmless Posh Prints for all costs, expenses, attorney's fees or judgments resulting from any claims or lawsuit made against for any grounds claiming that the work produced violates any copyright or proprietary right of any person or entity.
Lighting
In most cases, natural light will produce the best results. Try taking pictures of your baby near a bright window or in a room lit up by natural sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight. Avoid using the flash if possible. The soft light of a lamp is better than using flash.
Clothing/Background
Avoid busy backgrounds and clothes - they will only cause distraction from your baby. The focus should be your baby's face, and not the clothes. Use a simple blanket, sheet or towel to make a backdrop for your shot. Try outfits that are simple and in a solid color (or no outfit at all!). Plan a contrasting shot - if your baby is wearing a light outfit, put a darker background behind him/her.
Position
Get down to your baby's level and avoid the 'from above' shots. Photograph your baby in a sitting or lying position. Prop your baby up in a Boppy, on a pillow, or against the arm of a sofa/chair. You can also cover the Boppy, pillow, sofa/chair with a blanket or sheet. Sleeping shots are also very nice. Allow some room in your shot for us to have some flexibility when designing your announcement.
Happy Baby
Taking pictures of newborns can be very frustrating! For a pleasant experience for both you and your baby, time your photo session for when your baby is fed, well rested, and alert. If your baby is not enjoying the photo session, it will definitely be apparent in the pictures! Take a break and try again at another time.
Clear and Blurry Images
While we can correct brightness, contrast and color balance, we cannot correct a blurry or grainy image. Make sure your photo is clear.
Nudity
Please do not submit images of babies that contain nudity where all or a partial amount of the genital area is visible. If such images are submitted, they will be deleted from our files upon opening. We cannot make exceptions to this policy. Thank you for your understanding.
